U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the implementation of strengthened screening and vetting protocols across multiple immigration benefit categories. These new measures are expected to lead to additional review, longer processing times, and increased requests for evidence for many applicants.
The enhanced protocols include expanded biometric verification, broader social media and financial record screening, and real-time alert systems for criminal records. Certain categories of cases have been placed on hold for additional review, including all pending asylum applications, adjustment of status applications under the Diversity Visa Program, and benefit applications filed by nationals of high-risk countries.
Furthermore, USCIS is shortening the validity periods for certain Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) to allow for more frequent re-vetting. Even applicants not directly targeted by the holds may experience operational slowdowns as the agency reallocates resources to implement these intensive security checks. The changes reflect the administration's continued focus on national security and rigorous vetting of all immigrants.
